Since 2006, WORMS SAFETY has been building an alliance of quality and risk management specialists with a focus on the needs of the end user. Our pioneering network of interwoven companies and resource centers uses leading-edge technology to provide testing, inspection, and certification solutions. WORMS SAFETY’s fields of expertise include aerospace, textiles and apparel, and household goods.
1930 - 1998
INDUSTRY
The firm foundations of House Worms’ financial activity led to developments within several sectors of industry. Investments acquired during the inter-war period grew, eventually ranking among the 40 most prominent French companies, while also strengthening international development. Examples of the company’s industrial investments include Saint Louis, one of France’s leading sugar producers, and the Arjo Wiggins Appleton paper manufacturing group.
1928 – 1997
BANKING, INSURANCE & REAL ESTATE
Founded in 1928, the merchant bank, Banque Worms, provided growth opportunities and financing services to several external companies and branches of the parent organization. The institution was nationalized in 1982. Banque Worms facilitated the financing of international turnkey factories and plants, as well as creating Unibail, the European leader in commercial real estate. In 1973, the bank founded Permal, a global investment management firm.
1916 – 1966
SHIPBUILDING
During the First World War, the French government, worried by significant losses to the French naval fleet, asked House Worms to begin manufacturing ships. During their fifty-year existence, the company’s shipyards constructed nearly 200 vessels for the French Navy and private European companies
1856 - 1998
TRANSPORT
From the mid-19th century, the House Worms shipping fleet operated regular coastal lines throughout the Mediterranean, growing into a global transporter of petroleum. The company’s expansion also included air transport solutions, with House Worms helping to found Air France in 1933. Further innovation came in the field of ground freight logistics and the delivery of refrigerated goods across Europe.
1848 – 1983
ENERGY
For over a century, House Worms was a preeminent agent in the international trade of fuels. From delivering the coal that powered the mechanical dredges working on the Suez Canal through to the expansion of the company’s Port of Said base of operations, our vision prompted links with major oil companies and diversification into the sale of liquid and gaseous fuels.

Hypolite Worms established House Worms in Paris in 1841, quickly developing an international trade and shipping agency at the forefront of European progress. – Worms Services Maritimes is the modern heir to that original venture, still active today in France, Egypt, Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, Libya, Turkey, and Lebanon.
